Associate Member, Seth Parmer, to join brothers across the country for Build America this summer!

Hello, my name is Seth Parmer and I am a new associate member of the Alpha Rho Chapter. I am currently a sophomore majoring in Business Management with an emphasis on International Business. I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am about being a part of the re-chartering of the Alpha Rho chapter of Pi Kappa Phi!

Before joining Pi Kappa Phi, I met with many other fraternities, but didn’t feel the sense of brotherhood and philanthropy I desired. This all changed after meeting with Parker and Conner. After meeting with them and learning about The Ability Experience and Pi Kappa Phi’s involvement in the community, I knew this was the place I wanted to be.

Growing up I lived in a city in Northern California where most of its residents lived in neighborhoods riddled with gang activity and poverty. After seeing this, I knew that I wanted to help those who are not as fortunate as me. In high school I joined many extracurriculars that helped support many of my peers, but one of my favorite things that I was apart of was the PALs or Peer Assisted Learning Program. It was a program where I was able to spend time helping my peers with disabilities while building bonds with them. After hearing about The Ability Experience and its mission, I knew I wanted to be involved as soon as possible. In February I was elected as the Philanthropy Chairman and since then we had our first fundraiser, Pi Kappa Phiesta, where we sold walking tacos and raised over $300 for The Ability Experience.

I have decided to spend six weeks this summer with The Ability Experience working on projects that will enhance the camp experience for those with disabilities through a program called Build America. I will be joining 25 other brothers from various chapter across the nation and we will be travelling to six different camps across the nation helping them with various projects.

I believe that this will not only better my life and the lives of the people I get to work with, but also Alpha Rho. By going on this journey, I hope to create strong bonds with the national office as well as the other brothers that are joining me. I want to use these relationships to show the national office that the Alpha Rho chapter is back for good and plans to be the best chapter we can be. I would also like to use the time to learn tips and tricks that help other chapters execute successful philanthropy events.

I am very grateful and excited to have this opportunity and have committed myself to fundraising $4,000 for The Ability Experience. I am asking you, as fellow brothers of Pi Kappa Phi and alumni of the Alpha Rho chapter, to help support me on this journey to help those with disabilities. You can do this with a tax-deductible contribution to The Ability Experience. By donating you will not only impact the lives of the people I am able to help, but also help me create memories and experiences that I will never forget.

To donate, please check out my fundraising page at https://www.classy.org/fundraiser/1404393. You can also mail a check directly to The Ability Experience by including my name in the memo line and sending it to The Ability Experience at 2015 Ayrsley Town Blvd, Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28273.

Thank you for all for your support! It really means a lot to me. I look forward to meeting many of you during alumni weekend and at events to come!

Thank you,

Seth Parmer
